CASE STUDY: Reduce Mould Sensitivity Symptoms With Rebilt’s Thermal Camera Services

Rebilt’s thermal imaging technology camera services proves invaluable in locating existent mould and avoiding unwanted allergic reactions.

Rebilt’s team are dedicated in renovation projects including residential extensions, additions, recreating internal spaces, flooring, roofing, decks, al fresco areas, kitchens and bathroom areas.

Often the team are called out by property owners to identify possible termite activity and/or water penetration issues (leaks.)

This was the case recently with a property in Sydney’s Hill’s districts where our camera was able to identify existent mould [see purple area in photo] due to water penetration through the rear of the property due to pooling water and inadequate property drainage.

Mould can thrive indoors in your property’s moist or wet areas, especially in those your areas lacking in adequate ventilation. This may be within walls, wall linings, ceilings, bathroom and laundry tiles, carpets, various insulation materials, timber and has been found within wallpaper.

Mould produces tiny particles known as “spores.” These spores enable mould to reproduce. These may be carried in the air, and even inhaled by family members which may cause symptomatic health issues.

Mould of itself is not dangerous or toxic as some might think. However some types of mould do produce “toxic mycotoxin compounds” such as the “black mould.”

But for most people however, it is the mould allergy or allergic symptoms that produce an undesired discomfort. For people with asthma, inhaling mould spores may induce an asthma attack.

It is best practise to remove mould as soon as it appears.

The NSW Government website outlines those who may be susceptible to health issues due to existent mould:

“People with asthma, allergies, or other breathing conditions may be more sensitive to mould. People with weakened immune systems (such as people with HIV infection, cancer patients taking chemotherapy or people who have received an organ transplant) and with chronic lung diseases (such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and emphysema) are more at risk of mould infection particularly in their lungs.”

Rebilt recommends repairing all water penetration issues and plumbing problems such as burst water pipes, leaking roof or blocked rain gutters.

Rising damp is ground moisture that rises upwardly. Poor sub-floor ventilation or moisture in the sub-floor area will almost certainly compound the problem.

Early detection of water penetration issues utilising Rebilt’s thermal imaging camera services will assist you in avoiding excessive property repairs and possible detrimental damage to your health down the track.
